The wind can blow pretty hard here, and winter is the stormy time of year. It has been very mild since I arrived compared with the norm, I hear.
Just now the wind is up as the sun sets. My windows are rattling in their frames. Wooden wedges (like a doorstop but smaller) hang on a peg inside each windowframe. The wedge goes between the lower and upper window to stop the rattling.
You can figure, correctly, that a good bit of air flows through even when the windows are closed. My friends in Colorado would chink up those cracks in a hurry, but here it's nice to have the air circulating. In my small place I have two large ceiling fans (plus a/c) to keep air moving ... these fans are good for daytime while I'm at work (even now in winter).
If air doesn't move well the house can get moldy. That's why leather furniture or clothing isn't so popular here; it tends to mold easily -- at least that's what I understand to be true.
So the wind is blowing and I need to put the wedges in the window frames. I guess while I'm at it I'll turn off the ceiling fans for a while since there's plenty of air.
Don't look for me online soon. No, it's not that putting window wedges takes so much time, but as I said ... it's about sundown and the sky can be pretty dramatic this time of day.
